Thanks for your comments, Carlotta. That's great about your daughters and their actions fly in the face of all those nay-sayers who say that practising abstinence is unrealistic. I am sure their relationship with their future husbands (should they choose to marry) will be all the stronger because of the stand they're taking.

Excellent article Mathew! I'm glad you touched on the fact that the predominant attitude towards sex is that people can't refrain from their lusty urges. This attitude within families results in the large percentage of parents who supply their children with all the contraceptives they need. This is even the attitude of Christian parents who also believe it's more important to have contraceptives available then telling them no NO and NO to sex OR contraceptives!

I've raised my children with the expectations that they aren't to have sex NOR will they have any contraceptives at their disposal. Educating them about contraceptives is one thing, but giving them to your children sends the message that it's somewhat okay to have sex. I compare it to telling your child no about drugs and drinking, yet supplying them with those things with the attitude that "well, they're going to do it anyways." Parents don't realize they send the same message with contraceptives.

I've experienced somewhat of a victory in raising my children. My daughters at 22 and 25 are both still virgins and still have their purity rings from their pledges they made as teenagers to stay pure until marriage. I wish I could say the same for my boys, but at least they tell me that they are now practicing abstinence.

God didn't give us commandments because He thought it would be impossible for us to obey them, but for our own good! You showed in your article that the pregnancy and STD rate is 0% when abstaining from sex! It's not impossible, and as we know that with Christ ALL things are possible - including not having sex until married!
