Ed, you claim that DDT is actually "much more dangerous" than first thought, and that it is not effective. What evidence do you have for these claims?

In my book I substantiate my claims with scientific studies from the peer-reviewed literature. Please offer evidence for your claims as well as refutations to the studies I cite.

Re effectiveness, as I point out in the book DDT is most effective when sprayed on the inner walls of houses and other buildings to act as a repellant (rather than an insecticide) so that mosquitos do not enter the house/building and therefore have no opportunity to bite occupants.

The same way you can be sure that you have correctly interpreted anything you read: the words are given their usual meanings with respect to the context, the argument or propositions are coherent and logically consistent, and what is said is confirmed or affirmed by other accounts or references.

Understanding spoken and written language is common to all people and people who speak the same language more often than not communicate effectively if not perfectly.

If we read a newspaper report about a football game between Liverpool and Man United reporting that Liverpool won as a result of goals from Ian Rush and Craig Johnson, do we get to the end of the report, scratch our heads and say "How can I be sure I have interpreted this correctly?" It could be that the reported date of the game is in March 2000. In that case, we would know the report was false (ie. a lie) because Rush and Johnson played in the mid 80s and had long retired by 2000. But even in this case, we would not be in any doubt about what the report was communicating even if it is a lie. Indeed, it is precisely because we understand what it is trying to say that we know it is a lie!

People who read my book will be in no doubt about what I believe and why. You may agree or disagree but you will have no trouble understanding what I am saying. Why is reading and understanding the Bible any different?

The first 3 chapters of my book deal directly and great detail with this question. Moreover, I present theological and exegetical arguments (from the Hebrew and Greek) for my views throughout the book, as well as evaluating and dissecting the arguments of those with alternative views and showing why my view is superior. Thus, I encourage all to get hold of the book and read it. If you then have more questions, I would only be too happy to answer them.

Such a simple question. So remarkably difficult to answer. However, I stand by your question, insofar as I would love to see how Duane answers it.

This chapter also includes a very interesting section on the history of DDT. Andrew writes, “One of the greatest … environmental frauds of all time is the banning of, or restriction of, the use of … (DDT)” (p.262). I was always taught at school DDT=BAD. But Andrew says, “The truth is that DDT has been comprehensively tested and demonstrated to be a safe and effective chemical pesticide.” (p.262).

Actually, it's just the opposite. Today we know DDT to be much more dangerous than it was thought to be when we stopped using it on cotton. There is no evidence that DDT is "safe" and increasingly it is not effective, as the insects targeted quickly develop resistance and immunity.

If his research is that bad on a substance easy to check out, how good could his research be on other stuff? If he knows better, but fibs to make a point, what else is he fibbing about?
