About

Welcome to our virtual lyceum

The Aristophrenium was launched in 2009 as a central platform for publishing intelligent, opinionated and engaging articles from a growing range of sincere contributors who are interested in exploring and sharing their unique Christian perspective on issues related to philosophy, religion, science, society and culture. It was developed by its co-founders as a grassroots effort to broaden opportunities for collaboration and dialogue on these subjects from thoughtful writers with a passion for proclaiming the truth of the gospel and the centrality of Christ in all things. The material published here is focused on demonstrating the unassailable truth of God against the cynical and destructive erosion of human values and intellectual integrity so prevalent in the world today.

Writing is the medium that shapes and sharpens our ideas, a craft with an ancient history that has changed the world countless times throughout the millennia. We have a passion for this medium and you are invited to lend your voice to the conversation by sharing your ideas or challenging ours.

“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another” (Proverbs 27:17).

Comments Policies

The staff at the Aristophrenium encourage and welcome your comments on the items that we publish. However, there are some policies which visitors should bear in mind when considering leaving comments:

  1. Comments submitted at the Aristophrenium are initially held for moderation—not for point of view but for quality. If we receive a comment that is littered with gratuitous invective lacking any substantive point of view, it will not be published. Civility is not a requirement but some effort at an actual argument certainly is. And comments that contain abusive or idiomatic profanity will be edited to remove such words. Visitors may also request an edit be made (e.g. to correct a grammatical error) or a comment be removed (e.g. they regret posting it). With regard to the latter, whether or not the comment gets removed is by the sole discretion of the Aristostaff.
  2. Any edits performed on comments will contain a note from a member of the Aristostaff stating the reason(s). Visitors can easily verify the intellectual honesty of our moderation practices by saving a local copy of their comments and comparing it against the approved version that gets published to see that it is essentially identical.
  3. Although external links are permitted in comments, they must be directly relevant to your comment or the article to which you are responding – and we’d appreciate some effort at argument on your part other than you simply providing a link to argue a point for you (such a practice is lazy). When comments are held for moderation any links contained therein are likewise reviewed. With regard to spam: do not bother. It will not survive our site’s spam filters. Not only will it not get published, the Aristostaff will not even find it.
  4. The Aristophrenium uses the Disqus comments management system. Under this system, comments from regular visitors that consistently demonstrate integrity will eventually bypass the moderation process entirely, which is to say that their comments will appear immediately upon submission. Visitors being “white-listed” in this way is by the sole discretion of the Aristostaff.
